Latest image of the new Coliseum and Heritage Centre

Oldham Advertiser - - #OLDHAMLIVE -

THIS is what the new Oldham Coliseum and adjoining Heritage Centre could look like.

The Coliseum Theatre and Oldham council have been working together with architects on the ambitious plans for the new facility on Union Street. It would see the Grade II-listed former library building restored to its former glory and the creation of an adjoining new build to house the theatre.

The artists impression – created by project architects, Mecanoo – have been released before the formal planning application for the development is submitted this week.

Coun leader Jim McMahon said: “This latest vision is the result of careful work which aims to showcase the beauty of our future – an eyecatching modern Coliseum Theatre building – in a setting that fully complements and doesn’t compete with the grand former library building that will be given new life as a heritage centre.”

Coliseum chief executive and artistic director Kevin Shaw added: “This development will help put Oldham firmly on the map.

“It is hoped that, subject to permission and funding, construction will begin in 2016.”
