Couple attacked as armed thugs rob store

Oldham Advertiser - - #OLDHAMLIVE -

A BRAVE married couple were attacked by knifewielding intruders during a robbery at their Failsworth shop.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the robbery at Ziggy’s store on Propps Hall Drive, at about 10pm, on January 13.

A gang of three burst into the store while the man, 39, was on the shop floor. One of the robbers jumped onto the counter and dragged the till off the counter, while another threatened the shopowner with a knife and the third stood as lookout.

The couple tried to intervene in the robbery and grappled with the intruders. The man was punched in the face and his wife, 35, sustained a cut to her thumb.

The offenders then fled with the till. They are described as white, of slim build and wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Police Constable Craig Rice said: “Family-run businesses like this are the lifeblood of our business communities and we need to protect the people who run them. The best way to do that is to find who was responsible and bring them to justice.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
