Plea for witnesses after man was punched in the face in pub attack

Oldham Advertiser - - NEWS -

A MAN was knocked unconscious and suffered serious head injuries during a vicious pub attack.

The 43-year-old was punched in the face by a complete stranger at the Pineapple Inn in Shaw.

The attack took place at the venue, on Rochdale Road, between 7pm and 11pm on Tuesday, January 20.

Police said the victim had been enjoying a night at the pub when he was confronted by a man who launched an unprovoked assault, punching him in the face.

The victim lost consciousness and was taken to hospital – where it was discovered he had suffered a fractured cheekbone and eye socket.

The thug is described as white, 6ft 4in tall and well-built with short dark hair.

Det Con Leigh Carnally said: “The force of this punch caused the victim to lose consciousness and need hospital treatment for a fracture to his cheekbone and eye socket.

“There are likely to be a lot of potential witnesses who were in the pub drinking that evening and either witnessed what happened, the run-up to the attack or the aftermath so if you do have information then call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 0161 856 9080 or the Crimestoppers charity, free and anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
