Hello readers. The more observant among you might have spotted a new face on this page. I’m O’s new editor and the frst thing you should know about me is that I love pubs. Every kind of pub: from those with sticky foors and packets of pork scratchings behind the bar to those of the modern gastro kind where food is just as important as booze. And it’s the later kind we’re celebrating this issue, along with a new season of hearty, rib-sticking autumn recipes. Scampi and chips have been swapped for crab thermidor, chewy steak for tender, braised ox cheeks. From favour-packed game pies and sticky roasted root veg, to Irish stews and flling one-pots (three cheers for less washing up!) there will defnitely be a dish you’re going to add to the family repertoire here. Or, if you’d rather let the experts cook for you, we’ve rounded up our favourite pubs with rooms, from a boozer in the Capital to a retreat in Yorkshire. Don’t worry, we haven’t forgoten comfort puds though (psst… I like those as well!) except our clever cookery team have made them extra easy so you can spend more time eating. The pain au choc bread and buter pudding here has got to be the best shortcut dessert ever. If you like the sound of recipes like that then you have to visit our website Omagazine.com. Every day we post new content including fresh recipe ideas, top food and drink trends, reviews of the newest and most interesting restaurants, taste tests, cooking videos, travel inspiration, and more. We also have a weekly newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out on anything. Aren’t we good? Be sure to sign up, today! See you next issue, out 6 November.
