Corfu
Lear House, in northern Corfu, is a villa with a herb-lined pool overlooking the bay below. Inside, the vibe is more New England than Greek – whitewashed walls, blue footstools and a log burner – but you’ll soon remember where you are as you raid the well stocked kitchen. There’s olive oil, wine, bread, feta and honey. If you fancy a BBQ, you can order fresh meat from the supermarket, and the villa team can organise cookery lessons and boat trips, too. Walk to San Stefanos and order octopus stifado and bowls piled-high with oregano-flecked salads at Eucalyptus, or stay where you are and have Barbara Griva cook for you – platters of salami, sofrito and local wine are typical, as are Corfu classics from her family’s restaurant, The Old School Taverna, in Kassiopi (@oldschoolkassiopi). Scott Williams villas on Corfu start from 500 per person per week (scottwilliams.co.uk). Return flights from a range of UK airports to Corfu from £75 return (ryanair.com). More info: visitgreece.gr
