FROM the Beeston Review, w/c April 7 CATTLE Almost like the good old days of Beeston, more than 200 head of stores with something to suit everyone and selling on a first-class trade. Top steer and heifer were travelled cattle from Derbyshire, £1,120 for a two-yearold Charolais steer and £1,145 for the heifer. There were some super heifers on offer, Andrew Williamson sold Blues to £1095, John Goodwin with Limousin x at £1,030 and £1,090. For prime butchers’ cattle, top call of 235p/kg went to a cracking heifer from David & Martin Wilcock, a very similar model from the same home grossing £1,327. PIGS Cutter average £122.20, Baconer average £114.81, Overweight average £110. SHEEP Sixty new season butchers’ lambs and 934 old season lambs. Top spot new went to 316.0p/kg 40.2kg Charollais crosses – R & E L Blockley & Son, Winsford. Top spot old was 278.0p/kg 46.1kg Texel crosses - R & S Bailey, Rushton Spencer. Overall Average for new season 288.2p/kg and for old season 186.1p/kg.
