My tough challenge in memory of Hannah

- BY EMILIA BONA emilia.bona@trinitymirror.com @EmiliaBonaTM

ONE brave woman is taking on a gruelling assault course, featuring ice baths, electric shocks and fire pits, in memory of inspirational blogger Hannah Lyson.

Hannah Green, 26, heard of Hannah Lyson’s cancer battle through her sister, Ashleigh, who attended college with Hannah where they were studying to earn their wings and become cabin crew.

Hannah Lyson was just 20 when she died after a short battle with bowel cancer.

The inspirational Burscough blogger decided to start a frank blog where she shared updates about her treatment and fundraising efforts.

Her story touched people around the world as she fought to raise awareness of bowel cancer and to help others while dealing with her own illness.

Now Hannah Green is taking on the Total Warrior assault course to try and raise money in Hannah’s memory.

She said: “To know my sister was friends with someone like that is amazing. I want to make her proud.

“At that age I was planning a holiday to Ibiza, I wasn’t going to a friend’s funeral.”

The 10k Total Warrior course features electric shocks, ice baths and fire pits that Hannah will have to navigate to reach the finish line.

Hannah, who is originally from Huyton but now lives in Manchester, said: “I should have read up before I signed up for it but I’m in too deep now!

“This is the first time I have ever, ever done anything like this and I don’t even go to the gym. But if Hannah can do all she did, then none of us have any excuse.“

She attended Hannah Lyson’s funeral to provide support for Ashleigh, who went with the other cabin crew students in full uniform in tribute.

She said: “It was so emotional it was unbelievable. My sister was 18 at the time of the funeral and just the thought of being a big sister and seeing such a young girl go through something like that...

“This is not the end of what Hannah has done. It’s about keeping her legacy alive.”

Hannah Lyson’s family are supporting the fundraising effort and her sisters have been messaging to say how proud they are of what she’s doing.

Hannah’s parents even donated £100 towards the £500 target for her charity assault course, with all the money raised going to the Christie cancer treatment centre in Manchester.

It’s not going to be an easy task for Hannah, who says she is the “opposite of a gym-goer” and normally eats cake or chocolate for breakfast.
