FROM the Beeston Review, w/e June 2 CATTLE PRIME BUTCHERS CATTLE -Best light weight heifers raced away to 230p/kg on two occasions for John Gate’s 12mo Blonde and 14mo Limousin, both heifers weighting 460kg. Stronger heifers looked well sold, with none assured heifers all in excess of the £2 barrier, with a Charolais from Messrs Williams, Wrexham selling for 207p/kg and Blue’s from local vendor Andrew Williamson grossing £1187, with all heifers sold in this section averaging £1116 per life. Steers looked particularly dear on the day, with the best on the day selling for 212p/kg for E Williams, followed closely by P R Moseley’s Limousin at 209p/kg. POULTRY Families dominated the high prices with Buff Orpington Hen and 11 Legbar chicks £42, Broody Hen and 11 Pekin chicks £32, Hen and 10 chicks £22, Pekin Hen and 8 chicks £20. Other stock fetched better prices with a Mini Rex Doe £26, 3 Polish Hens £16 (all prices per head). A New Zealand Red Buck fetched £12. A large Turkey stag sold for £10 with 2 hen Turkeys selling for £8. Two pairs of Welsh Harlequins sold for £12. PIGS Porkers to 175p/kg, Cutters to 175p/kg, Baconers to 172p/kg, Sows to 84/kg, Boars to 37p/kg, Store Pigs to £58 per head. Less pigs on offer but an excellent trade. There was a new buyer which made the trade a flyer. Porkers selling to 175p/kg (£172 per head) Sows selling to 84p/kg (£264.60 per head) SHEEP Spring Lambs to 290p/kg, Spring Lamb average 248.43p/ kg, Hogget to 200p/kg, Hogget Average 166.64p/kg, Spring Lamb & Hogget combined average 231.14p/kg. Slightly less on offer but still a good entry. Please note this time last year 374 forward and averaged 212p/ kg, with a top price of 238p/kg for spring lambs. This year 734 forward averaging 231.14 to a top of 290p/kg for spring lambs. POTATOES New potatoes to £15 per bag FRUIT & VEG Not as much on offer this week due to the Bank Holiday, more expected next week PRODUCE Decent trade for Winter Barley Straw with Big Bale Loads at £86 per tonne and £85 per tonne. Small baled Hay made £3.00 per bale.
