Ann and David’s 50 years
ASOUTHPORT couple are looking forward to celebrating their golden wedding anniversary this weekend.
Ann and David Baldwin, who live in Churchtown, will have been married for 50 years this Saturday (July 8).
Their love story began after meeting when Ann, now 71, was 16 years old and David, now 72, asked her to be his girlfriend on the “Red Rec” in High Park in Southport.
The couple later got engaged at the age of 18, and married at the age of 21.
Ann, from High Park, and David, from Blowick, have two children Paul, 48, and Neil, 46.
They are also grandparents to three grandchildren Kathryn, Matthew, and April.
The pair, who both attended Meols Cop High School, very kindly shared the secret to a happy marriage.
Ann said: “To be successful in a marriage it is very important that you can laugh together, work together to get through things and most importantly be there for each other.”
The couple have very common interests also, which is sure to have a positive impact on their relationship. They have travelled the world during their time together and enjoy taking walks to keep active.
Ann explained: “I didn’t get on a plane until 1995, and then I caught the travel bug. We’ve visited loads of places, and we have a lot more yet to see.”
The couple also ensure that they raise money for the local charity Southport Stroke Club whenever they can.
The happy couple have pursued various careers during their time together.
Ann’s most recent job was taking children to school for Sefton Council, which she did for six and a half years, whilst David continued to work as a postman for 37 years before retiring in 2007.
The pair have both retired now, with Ann retiring in 2011, and are simply enjoying their life together.
To celebrate this very special occasion, they are holding a celebration with family and friends this Saturday at Southport Old Links Golf Club.
For the celebration, Ann and David have created a photo album documenting their time together for guests to browse through and sign.
Ann said: “Making the album made us reflect on our memories. We didn’t realise what a great life we’ve had.”
