Burscough win bragging rights

- BY EMMA SANDERS

BURSCOUGH CC picked up another comfortable victory against local rivals Skelmersdale CC on Saturday.

Jon Stone and his team have now won four matches in a row and look in great form heading into the final third of the season.

Saturday’s performance was a solid all-round display but Burscough showed grit and determination with the bat to take them over the line.

Stone and teammate Benjamin Van Niekerk scored 55 runs each, while other notable performances came from Brendan Domigan at number four (45) and Alan Murray at number seven (19.)

“I was very pleased with our performance against Skelmersdale this weekend,” said Stone.

“It’s the fourth week in a row now that we have produced a solid batting performance so I’m really pleased about that.

“Batting has really become our strong point and these scores that we’ve been getting recently are certainly attainable each week.

“There is a lot of confidence running through the side at the moment but we know that we cannot be complacent.

“We still need to work very hard each game as it is always a challenge and we need to give it 100% every time we play.”

Christopher Andrews was the pick of the bowlers for Burscough and he led the offence, taking six wickets for 29 runs in just 14.4 overs.

He was one of many who produced impressive displays on Saturday and Stone is hoping his side will be able to carry their good form through into another busy week.

Burscough will take on Newtonle-Willows on Saturday.

Saturday’s fixture won’t easy, though Newton-le-Willows have shown glimpses of inconsistencies this season.

Burscough will be looking to make it five wins in a row this week and record their best run of form since last season.

“We are at home against Newton and it’s a game I want to be aiming to take maximum points from again,” said Stone.

“Early on in the season it was a few dropped catches that let us down at their place so I want us to show what we’re really capable of.

“Now we seem to have tightened up every aspect of our game and I believe we can come out on top quite comfortably.

“We have a full strength side for both games this week so there will be no excuses for a poor performance and we want two wins.”
