Arsonists set fire to former pub
AMAN was stabbed in the street in skelmersdale after refusing to hand over cash. Lancashire police are appealing for information following the attempted robbery.
The incident occurred at about 11pm on Friday (September 22) in Feltons, in Skelmersdale, when two men, aged 32 and 35, were approached by four other men and ordered to hand over money.
When one of the victims refused, he was threatened with a craft knife-type weapon.
He attempted to disarm the offender who was holding the knife, at which point a second offender slashed him to his lower back, causing a minor cut. The victims then fled the scene. The four male offenders are described as being around 5ft 5in, or shorter, and all wearing dark clothing with hoods up and their faces covered. They all spoke with local accents. The weapons are described as craft or wallpaper knives that did not appear to have handles.
Det Con Peter Macdonald, of Skelmersdale police, said: “The victim has been left shaken after being threatened and suffering a slash wound to his back.
“Thankfully his injuries have not required further treatment.
“We would now like to hear from anyone with information which can help our inquiries.
“Maybe you know who the offenders might be, or were in the area at the time and saw something suspicious.
“If you know anything at all we would like to hear from you.”
Anybody with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting log number 1733 of September 22. ARSONISTS started a fire at a derelict pub in Birch Green in Skelmersdale.
Firefighters were called out at 1.43pm on Thursday, September 7.
A Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: “Two fire engines and crews were assigned to a fire in a derelict pub, the Silver Birch.
“Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire, which had been started deliberately. There were no casualties.
“Police were notified of the suspected arson.”
