WITH Hallowe’en just around the corner, it is only a matter of time before you’ll find yourself carving pumpkins.

Whether you like to carve cute characters, scary faces, or eat the contents wouldn’t it be fun if you could choose it yourself?

This year, instead of going to a supermarket to purchase your pumpkin, why not put on your sensible shoes and warm clothes, and head down to a pumpkin patch to select one for yourself?

Picking them can provide entertainment for the whole family, not to mention the fun children will have while carving.

So, we have compiled a list of the venues in Southport and West Lancashire where you can pick your own pumpkin:

POPLAR FARM THIS roadside patch is now open from 10am to 5pm daily.

Grab a wheelbarrow and explore the patch for your perfect pumpkin.

You can choose any pumpkin, of any size, for £4 or three for £10. Don’t forget to wear sensible footwear.

Last year, the farm grew a whopping 70,000 pumpkins and this year they had another two huge fields full of pumpkins.

A5147 Delf Lane, Downholland, near Orms-kirk, L39 7JJ (between the Kings Arms and Scarisbrick Arms).

CHURCH VIEW FARM YOU can pick your own pumpkin at Church View Farm on Saturday, October 14 at 9am until Tuesday, October 31. Remember to bring wellies, as it can be very muddy in the field.

Don’t forget to look out for the Hallowe’en themed hay bales, including a Minion and Frankenstein.

Church View Farm Shop is also open 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday ,and Sunday, 10am to 5pm.

Southport Road, Lydiate, L31 4HJ.

THE PUMPKIN PATCH, HIGHTOWN HEAD to The Pumpkin Patch, in Hightown, for some pumpkin fun from Saturday, October 7 to Tuesday, October 31.

Enjoy a fun day out with all the family and use the wheelbarrows to load up. There are giant pumpkins, plus a variety of different sizes to choose from.

Any pumpkin costs £4 and three for £10.

Refreshments are also available on site to warm you up.

Orrell Hill Lane, Hightown, L38 5DA (near the Pheasant Pub and just off the Formby Bypass, the A565).

THE PUMPKIN PATCH AT BUNGALOW FARM IF YOU looking for a “giant” pumpkin, The Pumpkin Patch at Bungalow Farm specialises in producing them.

They offer a variety of pumpkins, including white ones, but, because of the size and volume of the produce – customers are unable to pick their own from the ground.

Instead, visitors are taken into a pumpkin shop, where they can choose the pumpkin they would like.

The cheapest is priced at just 50p, with the most expensive (and the largest) costing £40.

Bungalow Farm, Heatons Bridge Road, Scarisbrick, L40 8JQ.
