ICT stu­dents get lowdown on ad­ver­tis­ing ca­reers

ICT Level 3 stu­dents from West Lan­cashire Col­lege have re­cently at­tended the IPA Ad­ver­tis­ing Un­locked event as part of their work ex­pe­ri­ence.

Show­ing team ef­fort by work­ing along­side other col­leges, the learn­ers came up with in­no­va­tive strate­gies to pro­mote prod­ucts with two global ad­ver­tis­ing agen­cies, BJL and Me­di­a­com.

The learn­ers worked on de­vel­op­ing pro­mo­tive prod­ucts for Wayma (Google’s driver­less car) in the UK and us­ing so­cial me­dia strate­gies to in­crease the pro­file of New Bal­ance train­ers.

Ad­ver­tis­ing Un­locked is a unique op­por­tu­nity for stu­dents to get an in­sight into work­ing in Manchester’s ad­ver­tis­ing and mar­ket­ing sec­tor.

Lead­ing agen­cies ran a range of work ex­pe­ri­ence ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing work­shops, sem­i­nars, mas­ter­classes and ca­reer talks from agency staff.

They had a great op­por­tu­nity to get in­volved and get a unique work ex­pe­ri­ence day.

BJL have worked with large or­gan­i­sa­tions such as Ron­seal, Swin­ton In­sur­ance, Asda, Ja­camo, Bet­fred and many oth­ers glob­ally.

Medi­com have worked to trans­form com­mu­ni­ca­tions through sys­tems think­ing.

They too have worked with large or­gan­i­sa­tions such as NHS Blood & Trans­plant, P&G, Mars/Snick­ers, Sony, Bose, Bank of New Zealand, Shell, Coca Cola and many more.

This was a fan­tas­tic op­por­tu­nity that pro­vided learn­ers an in­sight in to an­other part of the IT sec­tor.
