Scouts host uni’s science bonanza
DESPITE the threat of possibly losing their HQ in Barnes Road due to proposed housing development plans by Lancashire County Council, the Skelmersdale Methodist Scout Group hosted Liverpool University’s British Science Week 2018.
This was one of the planned events that will take place over the year to celebrate 80 years of serving in the local community.
Staff and students of the Science Department along with Scout Leaders were involved in delivering a number of fun science experiments suitable for children aged six to 18.
Parents and grandparents were also invited to participate.
Many of the children brought along non-scouting friends to let them sample a scouting event.
The main attraction was the university’s mobile planetarium.
This event was split into 20 minute sessions and could accommodate 12 people per session.
The entire event attracted almost 200 people from 10am to 4pm and was free for all to attend.
Further events will take place to celebrate the towns longest serving youth group which was founded in 1938.
