Bottom club Burscough still looking for first win after latest loss
AINSDALE prevailed in Saturday’s Southport derby, beating Fleetwood Hesketh by 98 runs thanks to a stellar bowling performance from Mal Swift. The experienced seamer took 7/27 to skittle the hosts for just 65, after Ainsdale had racked up 163/9.
Orrell Red Triangle remain top of the First Division after they bowled Wigan out for 73 in response to 138 all out, but Southport & Birkdale are just one point behind after they beat Birkenhead Park by 73 runs. Park’s Ahmad Safi Abdullah took 7/59 as S&B declared on 195/8, a total underpinned by Adam Phillips’ 59. Then it was over to Gary Keedy, who spun out 6/32 to wrap up the win. Wavertree earned their first win of the season in their south Liverpool derby with Sefton Park, posting 142 despite Rob Houghton’s 6/32, then blowing Park away for just 73 – Matt Nation took 5/41 and opening partner Romario Griffith 4/17.
Liverpool took 60 overs to post 138 at Prestatyn, and ran out of time to seal the win as the hosts closed on 115/8. Peter Cassidy took 6/26 for the Welsh side, and Robert Rimmington’s unbeaten 58 secured the draw after his side looked lost on 24/5. Burscough remain bottom, without a win, after Newton-le-Willows chased 121 with five wickets to spare.
