Labour: Stop the fracking
FOLLOWING the 18th earthquake in 12 days around the fracking site near Blackpool, Lancashire County Council Labour group is calling on the Government to suspend the operation.
Caudrilla has stopped fracking for short periods following some of the earthquakes, befre restarting within days.
The firm has previously opened a test drilling site in Banks.
The Labour group is now calling for fracking to be suspended and an independent inquiry to investigate the earthquakes.
Labour deputy leader and Skelmersdale councillor Cllr John Fillis said: “These earthquakes were not happening before drilling started so clearly there is a link with the fracking on this site.
“The Government has a duty to protect local people and suspend fracking not only on this site but across the county.”
