Building gets a shake-up as plan approved
AMILKSHAKE bar and nail salon could soon open in Ormskirk after planning permission was granted.
The former student accommodation at 117a Aughton Street, will be converted to two shops on the ground floor, with a two-bedroom flat on the first floor.
The property was first converted from a house to student homes in 2007, since when residents have repeatedly expressed anger and unhappiness over such properties being altered for use by students.
But the building, which is on the edge of the town centre, will now have a new use after West Lancashire Borough Council approved an application submitted by David Hart.
The new businesses will be allowed to open at 8am-7pm on weekdays and 9am-6pm at weekends.
Meanwhile, a new micropub and wine bar could be opened in Burscough in a separate application submitted to the council.
One section of an empty office building will be transformed into the bar area.
A student house with four bedrooms would be created in the rest of the building, which is adjacent to the 17th century Buck I’Th’ Vine pub.
The application, which has yet to be considered by the council, states: “The proposals comprise a sustainable economic development, which reuses previously vacant developed land.”
