Green for Linnets
BURSCOUGH confirmed the appointment of Terry Green as the club’s new first team manager last week.
Dave Sutton, who had been acting as the club’s manager after stepping up to the position last year, will now revert to his director of football role.
Green signed a new two-year deal with fellow HSL Premier Division outfit Abbey Hey six months ago but has jumped at the chance to take the reins at Victoria Park.
Burscough are 15th in the table following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Charnock Richard and Green’s first task will be navigating Sandbach FC in the Macron Cup this weekend.
Announcing their new manager, Linnets also revealed the club are targeting a top-half finish under Green’s stewardship despite only narrowly avoiding the drop last term.
“Terry will be developing the established playing squad [and] working alongside the director of football and club officials in an ambitious first season,” the club statement read.
“[Next] season will bring the full benefit of Terry’s 28 years experience in football, gained both as a professional and in non-league competitions. He holds FA Coaching Badges at Levels 1 & 2.”
Chairman Mike Swift added: “This appointment by the directors is made following a robust process and on behalf of the club I’m pleased to wish Terry good luck with his appointment that is a step up from his previous role as an assistant manager in our current league.
“I must also sincerely thank the 13 other applicants for the post, their interest in the club, football at Victoria Park and our plans going forward. It is to the credit of our players and the heritage of Burscough FC.”
