Lucy earns placement with top law firm
ALAW student at Edge Hill University has landed a work placement with a leading North West law firm as a reward for coming top of her class.
Lucy Moran, 20, won the Caroline Norton Award for achieving the highest mark in her year in the Land Law Module.
In recognition of her achievement, Lucy has been awarded a highly sought-after placement with award-winning, independent law firm Myerson Solicitors.
She said: “I had heard of the Caroline Norton Award and was aware of how prestigious it was, but never did I consider that it was something that I could potentially win.
“I received the award through the post the day before I was due to receive my exam results, so it was a fantastic surprise and totally unexpected.”
Lucy, who is from St Helens, is preparing to start her final year at University and plans to undertake her placement at Myerson Solicitors in summer 2021.
The sponsorship provides a full summer vacation scheme at the firm’s office in Altrincham, Manchester, where the successful candidate can rotate up to four seats across a range of departments.
Lucy added: “To have secured a qualified work placement such as this will be an invaluable experience.
“I’m really looking forward to having the opportunity to put everything I’ve learned at
Edge Hill into practice on my placement.
“Eventually, I want to be a solicitor and I know the direction I would like to take my career in.
“Hopefully this placement will help me to experience a broad range of specialisms and help me to discover which areas I most enjoy working in.”
For Lucy, the decision to study LLB (Hons) Law at Edge Hill felt a natural choice.
She said: “When I was considering my options for University, no other Universities made me feel as welcome and at home as Edge Hill.
“When you’re on the campus, it feels like you’re a part of a community and the tutors and staff are all so friendly.
“The decision has really paid off for me and I’m looking forward to getting back to University and completing my final year.”
Simon Hale-Ross, senior lecturer in Law, said: “This is not the first time Lucy has come top of her class during her Level 5 studies and she certainly deserves the award.
“It is important that we celebrate excellence and inspire students to push themselves in order they achieve their full potential.
“I am enormously proud of Lucy and would like to express my sincere thanks to Chris Wilson and all at Myerson Solicitors for sponsoring this incredible award.”
