Bank shuts for a week following Covid case

-

A BANK inside a shopping centre closed for one week after a confirmed case of Covid-19.

The Halifax branch inside the Concourse Shopping Centre in Skelmersdale closed its doors last Tuesday, September 15 and was due to reopen yesterday, September 23.

The closure was confirmed in a sign posted on the door but did not make clear whether the affected person was a staff member or customer and Halifax did not respond to calls.

People needing to use the bank are instead asked to visit Ormskirk or access online or telephone services.

The poster stated: “We’ve temporarily closed the branch as we’ve had a colleague/customer affected by the virus. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and reopen on September 23.”

It also advises those who have visited the branch to visit the Government’s websites for advice.

The closure came days after police warned those visiting the centre that they must wear masks.

Sgt Darren Carr said: “With the sharp rise in positive tests across the country it is more important than ever that everyone does their bit.

“Venues such as The

Concourse in Skelmersdale are classed as enclosed spaces so the rules about wearing face coverings apply throughout the centre.

“Officers have been speaking with shoppers, we will continue to engage, explain and encourage before we enforce but we will issue fines when needed.

“The rules are there for everyone’s safety so please be considerate.”
