We can do this All systems go for battling Buddies

- Saints gaffer Jack Ross is in confident mood ahead of the biggest game of the season against Raith Rovers Craig Ritchie

Jack Ross insists it will be all systems go when St Mirren take to the field for the biggest game of their season this afternoon.

The Saints boss says he has no concerns about his side, having been impressed with the work they have put in on the training ground all week.

A win over Raith Rovers would put the Buddies in the driving seat to avoid the relegation zone, though defeat would see them having to rely on other sides if they are to beat the drop.

Ross said: “I think as a player that these games are fun to play in.

“How they’ve trained all week, I really sense that they are looking forward to it. They have been really bright and because of the efforts they have put in, and knowing the importance of the game, I feel they are looking forward to it.

“The build-up, probably not so much, because I think once the game starts they will get a buzz off of that, and go and produce a good performance.

“We had a meeting on Monday because the manner of the defeat last Saturday was a sore one to take for everyone. We just reminded them where they have came from after being written off by so many people.

“Psychologically I think the Hibs result, beating Raith on Wednesday, will be good for our group too so we are in a good place at the moment.”

The pressure has cranked up in recent weeks as the season nears its close.

But Ross insists it is nothing new for his side, who have been having to deal with the stresses and strains of the relegation battle long before the turn of the year.

He added: “One thing we have been used to is dealing with pressure in games in recent months.

“The amount of times we have heard that games are must-win over the past few months is incredible, but at the same time that is what I want from this club. It should be the culture at this club that every game is must win, there has to be that expectation there. We want to go out and play in the manner we have done, play the positive game that we have become used to playing.

“We have faced so many games in recent months where, if we had lost, we would have been too far adrift.

“We have had to keep clawing ourselves back bit-by-bit, but I’m determined to drag this group over the line because I’m proud of what they have done so far.

“There is a real determination in this group to do it.”

 St Mirren boss Jack Ross looks set to have pretty much a fullstrength squad to chose from.

Defender Ben Gordon is the only doubt for the clash with Raith having rolled his ankle in the under-20s clash with Falkirk earlier in the week.

David Clarkson and Harry Davis remain long-term casualties.
