Support is lacking
A Renfrewshire MP has blasted the Government for not doing enough to support parents who lose a child.
SNP member Gavin Newlands criticised his colleagues in Westminster for failing to maintain a system that provides adequate help.
The MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North spoke out on bereavement leave, calling for a minimum of two weeks of statutory paid leave to be awarded to parents who experience the death of a child.
He said: “Shockingly, parents who lose a child are not provided with any statutory leave from their jobs. I welcome the plans that are in place to introduce a statutory requirement for paid leave and hope that we can try to deliver the very best level of support to parents who have lost a child.”
