Row over Pais­ley sex shop

than 30 demon­stra­tors – mainly women – protested out­side the coun­cil head­quar­ters in Cot­ton Street with ban­ners that read“Refuse this li­cence” and“Jobs not filth”.

Coun­sel for Nolan­light Thomas Daw­son said of the shop:“Since it has opened, it has never been raided by the po­lice.

“The shop sells mag­a­zines, films, videos, con­tra­cep­tives, vi­ta­min prod­ucts and mar­i­tal aids.

“The shop does not sell any­thing de­fined as hard-core porn.”

Mr Daw­son claimed the ‘Pri­vate’shop had a mem­ber­ship of 15,000 and there was“a le­git­i­mate de­mand for its ser­vices”.

He warned if the store closed this de­mand would be met by“back-street porn mer­chants”.
