Don’t be quids out as coin deadline looms
Families are being reminded old £1 coins will no longer be accepted at businesses across Renfrewshire from Monday.
HM Treasury will ban the use of the round pound from midnight.
They will still be able to be cashed in at banks, building societies and post offices.
The classic design is being scrapped after the Royal Mint introduced a 12-sided replacement in a bid to beat route out fakes
An estimated one in 30 of the old version are forgeries
The improved design was put into circulation in March and is thinner, lighter and boasts extra security features.
The round pound coin was introduced 30 years ago, with around £1.2billion already returned.
