Watch for signs of do­mes­tic abuse

Po­lice in Ren­frew­shire are ap­peal­ing to mem­bers of the pub­lic to be vig­i­lant when spot­ting signs of do­mes­tic abuse.

The cam­paign marks the be­gin­ning of ad­vent and has been posted on the Ren­frew­shire and In­ver­clyde Po­lice Divi­sion Face­book page.

A spokesper­son said it is “im­por­tant to know the dif­fer­ence be­tween lov­ing and con­trol­ling be­hav­iour”.

The state­ment read: “Does your boyfriend/ girl­friend em­bar­rass or hu­mil­i­ate you in front of fam­ily, friends or in pub­lic?

“Do they de­lib­er­ately de­stroy your prop­erty or cher­ished pos­ses­sions?

“Do they force you to en­gage in sex­ual acts that you are not com­fort­able with?

“Do they threaten to pub­lish ex­plicit pho­tos of you on so­cial net­work sites or send you or your friends threat­en­ing text mes­sages? “This is do­mes­tic abuse.” The con­ver­sa­tion on do­mes­tic abuse has been ex­tended to so­cial me­dia, us­ing the hash­tag #Do­mes­ticAbuseNoEx­cuse.
