Four Na­tions call-ups

Five curlers from Ren­frew­shire 12th Prov­ince have been named in the Scot­land side for the up­com­ing 2018 Four Na­tions com­pe­ti­tion.

Re­form Curl­ing Club’s Jan Howard has been named among the 31 Royal Cale­do­nian Curl­ing Club mem­bers in­vited to play in the com­pe­ti­tion. Re­form are based out of How­wood’s Greenacres Ice Rink and has a cur­rent mem­ber­ship of 168.

She will be joined in the side by James Car­swell of Skel­mor­lie CC and John McDer­mott of Ard­gowan – both of which sides fall un­der the Ren­frew­shire ban­ner. Jim Sta­bles and Ste­wart Suther­land have also been called up from the county.

The five will go on to fea­ture at the week­end event, which is played an­nu­ally be­tween the gov­ern­ing bod­ies of each of the home na­tions in Jan­uary. The host na­tion in 2018 is Ire­land, how­ever the event will be played at Stran­raer Ice Rink be­tween Jan­uary 19 and 21.

Sev­eral pres­ti­gious tro­phies will be played for over the course of the week­end, in­clud­ing the Tom Bal­lan­tyne Tro­phy – which is con­tested be­tween Scot­land men and Eng­land men.

The Con­nie Miller Tro­phy is also up for grabs as Scot­land ladies take on Eng­land ladies. The Welsh Stone and the Mar­shall Mil­len­nium Tro­phy will also be keenly con­tested.
