Gary plays the waiting game

Paisley Daily Express - - A Newlandscape -

Jack Ross admits this weekend may come too early for the returning Gary MacKenzie following his long lay-off from injury.

The defender is back in full training, having not played for the first team since the second week of the season.

But Ross says MacKenzie is doing well following his recent Achilles injury — and hopes he matches the progress made by Kyle Magennis, who is back featuring regularly for the first team.

He explained:“Gary is getting on well. He has only been in full training since the middle of last week.

“He has had no reaction from the injury and you have to consider that he has been out for around 15 weeks.

“If you compare him to Kyle, who was out for a very similar time period, then you will see that it takes time.

“Now we are starting to see Kyle back to where he was because he has had a five-week period, including games, which is like a pre-season in itself, and now he is getting to the stage where he feels his sharpest.

“We will hopefully have Gary available for first team matches very soon, but this weekend might come too soon.”
