MSPTom welcomes first responders to Parliament
Tom Arthur MSP welcomed some special guests to the Scottish Parliament recently.
The MSP for Renfrewshire South spoke in Parliament to highlight the work done by first responders in his constituency and paid tribute to staff and volunteers. He also told of the invaluable work done delivering front-line medical care to communities by the team.
He welcomed Lewis McColl and Ryan Ledgerwood, who work with the Neilston and Uplawmoor First Responders, to Edinburgh as part of the debate.
Tom said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to the volunteers and staff who provide this life-saving service.
“I was pleased to meet with some of the team when they came to hear the debate in the Scottish Parliament. It was great to hear the Minister for Public Health and Sport, Aileen Campbell, say she will be happy to engage and listen to suggestions on the long- term financial sustainability of our first responders.
“Our First Responders from Neilston and Uplawmoor receive fantastic support from all across the communities they serve, and I look forward to supporting them as they continue in their outstanding work.”
Community First Responders are members of the public who volunteer to help their community by responding to medical emergencies while the ambulance is on its way.
Full training in emergency skills is provided as well as the use of automatic external defibrillators and oxygen therapy.
