Hawkins can’t wait to run against Mo in the Big Half

- Athletics

Callum Hawkins is gearing up for the next month’s Big Half in perfect style.

The Kilbarchan marathon runner is currently in preparations for the new race in London, which will see him line up against the likes of Olympic legend Mo Farah, and current London Marathon champion Daniel Wanjiru of Kenya.

The Big Half starts at Tower Bridge and finishes in front of the Cutty Sark, in Greenwich, using many of the same roads as the first half of the London Marathon.

Used to the longer distances, Hawkins has been hitting the track in a bid to get himself in shape for next month’s test.

And he clocked a new personal best time of 29.03 to win the Schoorl 10km, in the Netherlands, on Sunday morning.

Later that day, he added his own 13-mile run that evening to keep the mileage up as he looks ahead to The Big Half next month and the Commonwealth Games in April.

Hawkins said:“I am really looking forward to The Big Half now I know I will get the chance to race Mo again.

“I’ve made no secret of the fact that I love testing myself against the very best athletes in the world and they don’t come any better than Mo.”
