Cameron is Player of the Week after outshining Dundee rivals
Braehead Clan defenceman Cameron Burt has been named the Elite League Player of the Week following a starring role in back-to-back wins over Dundee.
The 31-year-old, a summer signing by head coach John Tripp, was in superb form as two wins over Dundee Stars helped to cement the club’s spot among the league’s top eight.
And Tripp has made it evident in recent weeks that he will accept no less than reaching the play-offs.
Meanwhile, Burt reckons his side are finally hitting form at the right time following an inconsistent start to the campaign, which had seen the side struggle to put together a series of wins.
Burt said: “It’s more for a team award for us after a big weekend and I was just happy to play and do my part to help us get the win.
“The win on Saturday was awesome and there was a lot building up to it.
“On Sunday, both teams battled to the end, so it was good to get the two wins.
“There would have been a lot of pressure going into those games, but it was important to take it game by game and not let it build too much.
“As a team, we’re definitely clicking and you can see more confidence from the guys.
“Some play with a bit more swagger, so it’s coming at a good time for us.”
Burt arrived at Braehead after following Tripp in making the move to Scotland from Germany. He joined from DEL2 side Starbuls Rosenheim and has been an everpresent for the Clan throughout this campaign.
His Player of the Week gong follows picking up two assists in the two victories at the weekend as Braehead moved five points ahead of Stars in the race for the play-offs.
And coach Tripp insists that it is a worthy recognition for his player following a successful weekend on the ice for the Clan.
He added: “I’m delighted for Cameron.
“He’s played a big part of our team in recent weeks as we’ve picked up some big wins along the way.
“His skating, defensive work and overall play were huge for us in the two games against Dundee Stars and he brings a calmness to the team in the defensive lines.
“I was pleased to see us get all four points from the two games and, with a tough weekend to come, it stands us in good stead.”
