Ruby’s stars shine to raise cash for Malawi

-

Freddie Mercury, Tina Turner and Axl Rose all took to a Paisley stage to raise money for charity.

Kibble worker Ruby Whitelaw organised a Stars in Your Eyes event in the Bungalow Bar to raise money for the Classrooms for Malawi charity.

Ruby is planning on heading out with a group on another trip this summer.

Based on the classic ITV show, the event saw Ruby’s colleagues and friends dress up as their musical idols to perform on stage.

And this year’s winner was Freddie Mercury, aka Robert Clark, a child and youth care worker at Kibble.

Ruby said:“I sold almost 150 tickets and raised £1,487.

“A few of the local scooter club members came along to support the day and staff, past and present, raised the roof in what they continue to see as an annual, if not bi-annual, event.

“Alexis, the compere, was brilliant as usual.

“The acts were outstanding and the DJ Boab and owner Alan Corrigan continue to put their heart and soul into supporting Classrooms for Malawi.

“Of course, I couldn’t have done it

“This event was bigger and better than last year’s and next year is already in the planning.”

Renfrewshire Council has teamed up with Classrooms for Malawi to send groups of staff, and people working for other organisations in the area, to go out to help build much-needed facilities in the African country.
