Villagers unveil heart-start machine

Express Reporter A heart-start machine has been installed at a village community centre to help save lives.

The defibri l l ator was unveiled at Bishopton Community Centre with help from cardiac arrest survivor and karate instructor Tom Lambie.

Volunteers from the centre raised money to cover the majority of costs for the defibrilla­tor, with charity St John Scotland topping up funds as part of their scheme to increase public access to the devices across the country.

The charity is dedicated to saving and enhancing life and aims to give more people a chance of surviving cardiac arrest.

Tom knows first- hand the importance of the devices after having his life saved by one last year when his heart suddenly stopped during a training course in Caithness.

Jackson was jailed for making prank calls to officers last June.

The lout summoned police to her then-home in Paisley’s Stock Street.

She claimed men were using a baseball bat to smash a window.

But police found no damage when they turned up to probe the allegation­s.

They lay in wait after hearing Jackson’s voice and realised she was making false reports.

She was caged for almost two years after threatenin­g to throw herself in the River Cart in 2015.

Fire crews and ambulances scrambled to the scene as a crowd looked on.

Only three days later, she was lifted again after making three separate calls warning of a disturbanc­e in another street.

Police found nothing each time, but saw Jackson’s phone ring when they called back.

She also threatened to swallow pieces of glass as officers tried to reason with her that same year.

Jackson has been ordered to be of good behaviour and return for sentencing in September. restart his heart, which had been stopped for nine full minutes.

He said: “I am so happy to see that the community centre now has a defibrilla­tor installed and that it has the potential to save lives for both the hall users and the community as a whole .”

St John Scotland installed the equipment, which was officially unveiled on Saturday.

The device is designed to be used by people with no previous training.

Volunteer trainers from St John Scotland will also host a free drop- in session at the centre to teach locals how to perform CPR.
