Former car showroom to be transformed into Accord Hospice’s first superstore
A leading Paisley charity is preparing to open its first-ever superstore.
Accord Hospice is refurbishing the former Murray Volvo premises, in Glasgow Road, which it will turn into its largest store and also create a hub for the community.
David McFadden, senior fundraiser at Accord, said: “It is probably going to be open in the next couple of months.
“This is essentially what I’ll call our superstore. “The lovely big glass front just needs a huge tidy up on the outside to make it look part of the community again because it’s been dilapidated.
“What we are going to have essentially is not a normal store – it’s about five times as big on the shop floor as any of our stores – so it’s quite important to fill that with not only items but community-type stuff.
“So we will have couches and a library for people to come in, have a coffee, sit down, chat, meet volunteers.
“So it’s going to be a wee hub as well.
“And we’ve obviously got Paisley Grammar School across the road, so we’re going to have a think about how we are going to bring them in.”
There will also be plenty of space to store things at the new shop, Mr McFadden added.
“We’ve also got quite a big warehouse at the back, which is essentially going to be our sorting office as well, that’s for all the items we receive.
“So it’s going to be a double whammy for us.
“It’s going to be good for us, it’s a nice-looking store.
“We’re doing a lot of work on it.
“And one of the good things about it is that it has parking, so people can come in and stay for a cup of tea.
“Most of our current shops don’t have parking, so if people want to drop off something that’s heavy, they can come in and do that.
“There will be no hassle about thinking about where you’re going to park, which is quite important.”
