Heir of Granatyki
FREEWA RE Plough into a new King’sField
Thanks to the unexpected explosion of Dark Souls, From Software hasn’t had time to return to the two series that made its name: stompy mech-’em-up Armored Core, and their ponderous first-person RPG King’s Field. While the likes of
Hawken and MechWarrior Online have us covered on the robot front, it’s fallen to King’s Field fans to recreate its atmospheric dungeondelving. MasterTaffer has done just that with Heir of Granatyki, a prequel to the original game that prompts you to investigate a mysterious darkness in the northern continent. You’re not Columbo, so by “investigate” I of course mean “slaughter every monster you come across”.
Made using From’s moderately creaky Sword of Moonlight engine – a tool specifically tailored to making King’s Field- a-likes – Heir of
Granatyki is pretty far from your typical FPS. WASD and mouse controls are out, and unintuitive keyboard/gamepad commands are in. It’s worth putting up with all that, however, as this ethereal adventure captures the dreamlike spirit of From’s originals remarkably well. DOWNLOAD AT www.bit.ly/Granatyki
It’s cumbersome, but with a pace and atmosphere all its own.
