Phoebe and Jim
Vintage romance in rustic surroundings
Jim and I weren’t even engaged when we first visited Cooling Castle Barn – we were there celebrating a friend’s wedding and both said that if we ever got married, that’s where we’d want to do it. After Jim proposed, we started planning our spring wedding. We had a vintage theme with all our details picked out in pretty, neutral colours to offset the rustic surroundings.
Our talented friend Jess designed our gorgeous hessian, lace and kraft card invites – they were exactly what I’d hoped for. We also made our table plan, screwing flower pots onto a vintage ladder. Each table was named after a flower, and each flower pot had corresponding artificial flowers inside.
The personal touch we were most proud of was our wedding favours. My parents spent a year collecting over 100 teacups and saucers from car boot sales and charity shops.

THE MOMENT I SAW JIM AT THE ALTAR I STARTED CRYING AND HAD TO LOOK AWAY TO COMPOSE MYSELF
They filled each one with soya wax and a wick to create candles, and we paired them with personalised poems thanking guests for coming, and asking them to remember our day when they lit them.
Everything about our day was wonderful. Even before it started, I had such a special morning with my family and bridesmaids. Jim had made me a photo album of all our special moments and memories over the years, and looking through it before heading off to the ceremony made me even more excited!
Just before walking down the aisle the nerves suddenly hit me – this was it! My dad gave me a huge hug and we set off towards the altar, but the moment I saw Jim I started crying and had to look away to compose myself. It was the most amazing feeling and a special moment I’ll never forget.
