An enchanting hillside setting in South Africa
Imoved to South Africa to work in the safari industry and met Anthony while living in Cape Town. After getting engaged, we decided that we would like to get married just outside the city in South Africa’s beautiful wine region. We took a road trip to search for a venue and spotted a tiny chapel on the hillside among the grapevines.
The Chapel belonged to the Montpellier wine farm. We drove up a long tree-lined driveway to the old Dutch manor house and immediately fell in love with the setting. There were so many magical nooks and crannies – the glasshouse in the forest, the enchanting gardens, a beautiful pool and magnificent French-style wine cellar.
We could have the whole place to ourselves for a weekend, all our guests could stay at the farm, and after a ceremony at the chapel, we could hold our reception in the fairylit oak trees – we were sold!

As we were all staying at the venue there was no need to hire a wedding car, but Montpellier offered their huge flatbed Chevy truck to give guests a lift from the manor house along the farm track to the chapel, before coming back for me, my mum and my bridesmaids.
The journey to the church on the truck was so much fun it made me feel more at ease, and as soon as I was walking down the aisle, my nerves disappeared. It was truly the most magical day and I don’t think I’ve ever smiled so much in my life!
As many of our guests came over from the UK for a two-week holiday, we arranged safaris in Kruger National Park and lots of activities in and around Cape Town to really make the most of their time with us. Having the chance to celebrate with everyone we love most in the world in one place was incredibly special.
