AMY AND NICHOLAS 27 PAGES OF STUNNING REAL-LIFE INSPIRATION
Being from a creative background, I knew that our
day would be a DIY affair. We wanted a wedding that represented who we are as a couple, and only we could do that. When we looked round The West Mill in Derby, we knew that this was the place to bring our vision to life!
My bridesmaid is a freelance illustrator, so she offered to design our stationery for us. We chose a very natural, hand-drawn design which worked perfectly for our venue, as the mill has bags of character so we didn’t want to overdo it with the décor. We then used this floral design throughout our whole wedding.
For our tables, we collected jars which I sprayed with gold, bronze and silver paint. Some were used as candles and others filled with dried lavender and eucalyptus. We also sourced a selection of succulent plants and lanterns to incorporate a little bit of Morocco (where we got engaged).
When it came to my dress, I didn’t want anything traditional. I tried on numerous designs but nothing felt quite right, so when I discovered Needle & Thread (needleandthread.com) I fell in love! I ordered a long-sleeved gown with lots of embellishment – the detailing made it feel so special.
My best idea was having a music duo play throughout the day – hearing them sing Latch by Sam Smith as I married my best friend was unforgettable.
