2017 BIKE: ALL- NEW, SAME- OLD
THE NEW FIREBLADE SP2s Honda Racing will be converting into BSB bikes arrive this month. The evolutionary nature of the new bike should help with development. “We’re hoping that a lot of the work we’ve already done will carry over,” says Paul. “None of the chassis mounting points have changed and the geometry is the same, so we should be able to use yokes, swingarms, the fuel tank and subframe, saving us some work. We’ll have to get new bodywork made, but that is probably the only major work we need to do with the chassis.
“Even the SP2’s unique pistons and cylinder head shouldn’t be too different in terms of what we need to do – we’re expecting the work we’ve done with camshafts to transfer to the new engine. The ride-by-wire injection will be the major benefit for us in terms of rideability.”
