‘Don’t let anyone borrow your tools’
TONY AND NEIL’S WORKSHOP WISDOM
We get so many people asking to borrow our tools at trackdays, but, take our word for it, if you lend your tools out you never, ever, get them back again! Don’t do it. Just don’t do it!
CLEAN YOUR WHEELS
I hate working on dirty wheels and if you clean them regularly you will spot any potential faults such as cracks. Wheels do crack, especially after an accident, and dirty tyre valves will let crud into the valve itself.
WATCH THE SPACERS!
We have a collection of spacers and cush drive rubbers people have dropped while carrying wheels around paddocks. When you remove a wheel, put all the spacers and rubbers in a tub. And double-check you’ve removed them all!
LAY THINGS OUT
Always clean up before a job and then lay things out so you know what parts you have removed and what needs to go back on again. Working in a mess will always lead to a bad job or lost parts.
CLEAN YOUR BIKE
On our invoices we print in big red letters, ‘Please clean your bike regularly as this can identify faults early.’ It is so true. If an engine is covered in dirt how will you spot a small oil leak before it develops into something more concerning?
