We tried Continental Race Attacks first, which lasted well with only a small drop in performance. No complaints on the handling or grip front. Avon AVXXs had good grip, but a few track sessions to assess them wore them very quickly, and the flatter profile reduced the contact patch at full lean, so it didn’t hold a line as well. We opted not to race on them. Instead, Matt fitted a set of Metzeler Racetec RRs in K2 compound. He had no complaints about them, even at abrasive Thruxton. We opted to run 120/70-17 fronts on the stock 3in rim – 3.5in rims are allowed, but add a kilo. We didn’t experience any discernable issues from the oversize fitment on track. The standard 4.5in rear takes a 160/60-17 nicely. We didn’t get opportunity to conclusively test wets.
