Work planned atnew station lounge facility

- Rachel Clark

Plans have been drawn up for a new first-class lounge at Perth Railway Station.

Caledonian Sleeper, which operates the overnight rail service from Scotland to London Euston, has applied to transform the partiallyused A-listed building at the station’s platform four.

Currently, the ground floor of the 19th Century building is used by Network Rail staff, but the first floor is empty.

A spokesperson for IDP Architects, who have been tasked with the project, said: “The proposed works are to provide facilities for first class passengers using Caledonian Sleeper services and staff accommodation.

“The scope of the project includes the provision of new first class lounge, wet rooms, meeting rooms, a training room, auditorium, prep area and mock-up room.

“The proposed location of the works is currently vacant and in a state of disrepair. The proposal will reinstate many original features and bring a large unused area of the A-listed building back into use.”

Caledonian Sleeper have applied to Perth and Kinross Council for planning permission, and Glasgowbased IDP Architects has also applied for listed building consent. Mark Beaumont breaks for lunch with mum Una and dog Neo
