Fan family crack Maze

-

The Watsons A Perth family cracked The Crystal Maze on Friday as the iconic 90s gameshow returned to Channel 4.

The Watson family won six crystals and won 51 gold tickets, after 38 silver tickets were deducted, to secure VIP tickets to York Dungeons.

Captain Catriona, Chris, Paul, Becca and mum Fiona kicked off the new series in style.

Massive fans of the original series, the family jumped at the chance to audition as soon as the remake was announced. They had a successful audition in Glasgow in March.

The family then jetted down to Bristol to don the famous shellsuits and film the episode, now hosted by comedian and actor Richard Ayoade, in May.

Chris, a customer service advisor at Aviva, said: “It was an amazing experience that we were all really lucky to take part in.”

The 21-year-old was convinced the show was a joke until the producers got in touch.

“I honestly had doubts that it was genuine, even at our first audition,”he said.“Until I received the first email from Channel 4 I was convinced it was a wind-up.”

The show, famous for its lacklustre prizes, failed to disappoint with the unsurprisingly unused Dungeon tickets.

“I had a bit of an over-reaction for the York Dungeons prize but it was an absolutely class experience down in Bristol,”said Chris.

He added:“It really is the weirdest feeling in the world, seeing yourself on TV.”

The Crystal Maze is on Channel 4 on Fridays at 8pm.
