He admitted: “I looked around today and I felt tremendous pride. Our staff work so hard to make this a great place to shop, but for the Royal visit, they could not have done us more credit.
“I love what we have achieved as a family. We were the first to offer a proper food hall in Scotland, it was a risk at the time, but look how it has paid off.”
With her brother George, Mr Birkbeck’s little granddaughter Beatrix was thrilled to present the departing Duchess with a flower posy.
The royal party then moved on to visit Blair Atholl’s Watermill Bakery just down the road. The Duchess with Rami Cohen of Blair Atholl’s Watermill Bakery Pupils from Royal School of Dunkeld turned out to meet the special guest Provost Dennis Melloy and council leader Ian Campbell
