Jack shortlisted for Pub Chef of theYear accolade
A Perthshire chef has been nominated for a prestigious award after being nominated by a local politician.
Chef Jack Marsh from the Meikleour Arms in eastern Perthshire has been shortlisted for the Parliamentary Pub Chef of the Year award after being put forward by Perth and North Perthshire MP Pete Wishart.
All the shortlisted finalists will need to take part in a cook-off challenge to display their skills and talent to an expert panel of judges and sponsors before they can get their hands on the accolade.
Mr Wishart said: “Choosing my nomination for this year’s Parliamentary Pub Chef Awards was particularly difficult given the sheer number of great establishments we have here in Perthshire.
“I have been a fan of Jack’s food for a number of years now and remember him from before his time at the Meikleour Arms too.
“Jack prides himself on using seasonal and local ingredients where possible and really showcases Perthshire in his food.
“I wish Jack and the rest of the team at the Meikleour Arms the very best of luck in the competition.”
Brigid Simmond, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association – which is running the awards – added: “With pubs serving around a billion meals each year it is important to recognise the contribution pub chefs make to the eating out experience in this country.
“The outstanding range of culinary options that span from breakfast to evening meals demonstrates the huge wealth of creativity in pub kitchens, big and small.
“Many leading, well-known celebrity chefs have ventured into the pub arena helping to further boost the quality of food in pubs, whilst still making it an affordable treat.
“Our aim is to highlight the talented chefs around the country, help spot future stars and encourage more young people to consider training and working as a chef in a pub.”
