August was cool and damp, according to PA weatherman Norman Pedgrift.
The average temperature for the month was 14.2, compared to the average for August of 15.2C.
Rainfall for the month was 85 millimetres, compared with the average of 65 millimetres.
Norman said: “There was no spell of what most of us would like to believe is summer.
“The best spell was over the last few days, by which time nights were beginning to chill.
“As with July, there were few days which were completely dry.”
