Green vests set off Around Cumbrae
Personal best times were the order of the day for Perth Road Runners who made the journey to compete in the Around Cumbrae 10-mile race.
Twenty seven green vests made the trip west, jumped on the ferry from Largs, before being met with grim conditions at the start line.
But that did not deter Michael McConnell from finishing in ninth position overall in 57:22 as Stuart Robertson followed in behind in 57:51 for 11th overall. Kevin Riddell was third Perth member back in 62:18.
Caroline Jones was first female road runner in 70:58 with Sonjia Crow in 73:08 and Gillian Edwards clocking 75:57. Several club members gained new personal best times including Garry Smith in 68:04, Brian Galletly in 70:09 and Stephane Reid with a time of 91:23.
On the same day, eight road runners travelled south to Newcastle for the Great North Run. Richard Ward finished the half-marathon in a new personal best time of 1:27:58. It was his ninth appearance at the event in the last 10 years and he returned home with 67th
Perth’s ultra-marathon runners in Tiree in his age category, 616th position There were two club representatives overall out of over 57,000 runners. at the Half Braemarathon on Sunday,
Lisa Aikman was first female green with Robin Wombill and Fiona vest in 1:45:23 with Cheryl Gahan Morrison finishing the picturesque out returning shortly after in 1:51:47. Colin and back route in 2:52:07 and 2:52:08 Wilcox finished in 1:45:42, Stuart Cairns respectively. in 1:45:24 and Andrew Gellatly 2:49:11. Closer to home, six green vests lined Wendy and Lenny Burnett finished up for the Stirling 10K. Myles Bax was together in a time of 2:00:46. first male road runner home and 39th overall in 33:28.
Simon Grieshaber finished in 41:42, coming 25th in his age category, followed closely by James Fotheringham in 41:48. Angela Irving was first female from Perth in 42:28, ahead of Sue Jones in 49:47 and Katrina Leese, who ran her first 10k race in club colours with a new personal best time of 57:39.
It was another busy weekend at the Perth Parkrun where 30 green vests lined up alongside over 200 participants. David Knight finished third overall in 17:46 with Marlena Nowaczyk third female overall in 21:43.
Finally, four intrepid road runners took part in the Tiree multi-terrain ultra-marathon.
In atrocious weather conditions and arguably an even tougher route than previous years, Andy Wilson finished the 35-mile test in a new personal best time of 6:57:10. Laurie Carruthers finished in 7:02:55, with Margaret McIntosh in 9:38:09 and Caroline Ness in 10:16:22.
The finale of the summer series is this Sunday with the Pitlochry 10K.
And the next club championship race is the East Neuk 10K on September 24.
