Planto stream council meetings

- Rachel Clark

Council meetings could be live streamed to the public in the future.

At a meeting of the full council held on Wednesday last week calls were made to broadcast meetings online to make them more accessible.

An appeal was made by Perth City North councillor Dave Doogan, who addressed the elected members at Loch Leven Community Campus in Kinross before business got under way.

The SNP elected member said: “I wonder, could I request that on reflection [of the last full council meeting] where we recorded the meeting for training purposes, can we as a council move to live streaming of meetings?

“As a council we have invested in the technology, and the public should benefit from this sooner rather than later.”

Cllr Doogan added he would also like to see pictures from across the whole of Perth and Kinross displayed on the large screens in the council’s headquarters in 2 High Street. Currently, only images of Perth are displayed.

He continued: “For the larger screens in the council chamber, we have fantastic scenery here in Kinross, second only to Perth City North - might we have images from all around the county, rather than just Perth, on the screens?”

Gillian Taylor, head of democratic services at the council, confirmed the local authority was looking into both of these suggestions.

She said: “We can move ahead and make sure we have the technology do to this [live streaming].

“I am delighted to confirm we have the proofs for images proposed which do reflect all the wards, so we will be seeing those [in 2 High Street] very, very soon.

“I am happy to confirm both of these things are happening.”
