Domino league is looking for high numbers

Clubs appeal for new faces to sign up

- Rachel Clark

Members of Perth Domino League are looking to recruit new members.

The first matches of the league, which includes teams from Tulloch, Railway, Letham, Exservicemen’s and St Johnstone social clubs, began on Friday after their summer break.

And team member Jason MacDonald hopes to encourage some new faces to get involved.

He said: “We are definitely looking to try and somehow get younger people to perhaps think about playing the game and joining because obviously, as people in the league are getting older, there are less youngsters coming in behind them.

“That is one of the major challenges we are looking to address so we are trying to get the message out about what we do and where we are.”

Each social club has a team of 12 players and each Friday 10 teams play at the different social clubs across the Fair City.

Participating players face all members of the opposing team, with the winner being decided on the aggregate score.

Jason continued: “Another major thing that has changed is that women are now allowed to play in the league.

“It used to be a men’s league but we have moved on from that.

“If anyone is interested there are five clubs out there.

“To get playing the best thing to do is get in contact with any one of the teams at any of the social clubs involved because teams are always looking for players.

“There are a couple of clubs who are struggling for numbers at the moment.

“It is a fantastic social evening and, although it is enjoyable, it is a competitive environment where you get to meet lots of new people.

“For the majority of people in the league they get to go out and relax and play dominos and it is their main night out.”

The Perth Domino League features a number of individual, pairs and team competitions and a cup.

Jason urged anyone interested in getting involved with the domino league to contact the Tulloch, Railway, Letham, Ex-servicemen’s or St Johnstone social clubs and become part of their team.

He added: “The most important thing is getting more numbers and more youngsters coming in.

“That will be our biggest challenge.”
