Safety success for Meigle

Residents in Meigle are celebratin­g a victory in their campaign for better road safety.

In a letter to John Swinney MSP, the council’s head of environmen­t and consumer services has confirmed traffic signals at the A94/B954 junction will default to red and only change when a vehicle is detected.

Electronic signs will also be fitted on Forfar Road and Dundee Road and 40mph limits could be brought in on main routes through the village.

The council will also assess the possibilit­y of implementi­ng a 20mph limit.

Kevin Stirling, head of campaugn group Safer Meigle said:“The residents in Meigle have been concerned about road safety in the village for a number of years.

“The Safer Meigle Campaign was formed to bring these concerns under one banner. To date we have identified that 50 per cent of vehicles entering the village are travelling over the speed limit with commercial trucks and vans exceeding the 30mph limit most frequently.

“We are grateful for the support we have received from Perth and Kinross Council, local councillor­s and John Swinney to date in raising awareness of this campaign.”
