Opera tasterfor everyone

-

Scottish Opera will be returning to the Fair City with their ‘pop-up’ opera roadshow.

The professional operatic group will be taking its theatre on wheels to Perth on Saturday, August 18 as part of the cultural programme running alongside the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

The roadshow will offer two free 25-minute shows suitable for all the family.

Opera will be brought to life with a storyteller, singers, musicians and illustrations, and the shows aim to be a “fantastic introduction to opera”.

The first performances will be ‘Be a sport, Spike!’, an opera written by Karen MacIver and Ross Stenhouse.

It tells the story of Mike ‘The Spike’ McTavish, who is the greatest sportsman the world has ever seen, but he cannot sing.

Be a sport, Spike! is suitable for children aged four to seven and their families and will be show at 11am and 1pm.

And at 3pm, Scottish Opera will perform ‘A little bit of HMS Pinafore’, with some of the best songs from the classic Gilbert and Sullivan opera.

The roadshow at Horsecross Plaza is free to attend.
